Hello Brothers and Sisters,

This year is the 60th year that I have had the great fortune of being a member of Local 1547. During that time I have seen the very best, and the worst, people in our Officers of this union. Doug Tansy is definitely one of the best that we have had in leading our Local and I ask you to join me in electing him to another term.

Knute Anderson

60 Year Member, Past Executive Board President

Doug Tansy is absolutely the total package Local 1547 needs at this critical time. As an executive board member of our local union for more than 39 years, including as President from 1993 through 2020, I’ve worked with lots of business managers. Rarely have I seen one as qualified and excellent as Doug Tansy. He is not only an excellent leader, he is a take-charge individual who gives it a 110% with great instincts about what meaningfully improves the lives of all our members. He has earned my support and I encourage our members to vote for Doug when you receive your ballot.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with Doug Tansy for several years now on the Local Union staff. In that time, I’ve witnessed the way that he interacts with business leaders, elected officials, rank and file members, as well as apprentices. In front of any audience and with any action he takes, Doug always has the best interest of the membership at heart. At the negotiating table he is patient and purposeful, and firm when he needs to be. I can think of no better person to lead Local 1547 into the bright future that we have. Please join me in casting your vote for Doug Tansy for IBEW Local 1547 Business Manager!

I support Doug Tansy for Business Manager. With billions of dollars of federal infrastructure money coming to Alaska, I believe Doug is best equipped to ensure that Local 1547 workers get many of those jobs. He’s has made huge strides already for our members in his first term. With Doug as Business Manager, we have a seat at the table, guaranteed. He knows the key players. They know and respect him. I’ve worked with the biggest labor leaders across the state for two decades. To a person, every one of them has been extremely impressed by Doug’s abilities. This is a no-brainer. Plain and simple, Doug has the proven skills and he knows how to get things done for the membership.

Laura Bonner

Journeyman CO/PBX I&R. Laura has been and continues to be an institution at Local 1547. Indentured as an apprentice in 1975, she was elected as Unit 101 Recorder in 1990, and then elected Executive Board Recording Secretary in 1993, a position she still holds 33 years later. She was also on the local apprenticeship committee, sits on our Legal Trust Fund, and has been president of the local 1547 Retiree club for many years. Laura still regularly testifies in front of the legislature on bills that affect IBEW members.

Doug Tansy has served our Local’s membership for over a decade, first as a Business Rep and then as Unit 102 Assistant Business Manager. He has been involved with negotiations for numerous collective bargaining agreements large and small. He has the political savvy to communicate with lawmakers at the national, state, and local government levels, standing up for our membership to keep bad bills like right-to-work and harmful pension reforms from becoming laws and to promote projects that provide jobs for our members. He has worked diligently to increase member engagement recognizing that we, the members, are the Union.

Doug Tansy has the experience, proven leadership skills, and passion to keep our Local moving forward. That’s why he has my vote for Business Manager.

Stan Eberhart

Journeyman Wireman, 52 Year Member

Doug Tansy. Met him on the job years ago. He was a new apprentice. I soon learned he was smart - quick smart. He picked it up fast and worked hard. After becoming a journeyman, foreman, general foreman and completing many successful jobs, he was asked to become the wireman rep in Fairbanks. He has kept up the smarts and hard work. The 24/7 aspect of this job, if done right, is not thought of by many of us. The ability to manage your own family and your IBEW family? Get us over the bumps and scrapes along the way? Toughness, compassion, the right stuff? Doug has set a high mark and Local 1547 is that much better for it. Vote Doug Tansy!

James Gengler

Journeyman Wireman, Previous 5th Year Wireman Instructor

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I am writing with great enthusiasm to strongly endorse Doug Tansy for reelection to Business Manager with Local 1547. As an electrician having twenty-seven years in the trade working with a multitude of signatory contractors across the state, I have been blessed with the opportunity to work for and alongside Doug Tansy on a multitude of projects. I have known Doug since he became a member in 2001 and I was privileged to teach the 5th year wireman class in 2006 where Doug Tansy journeyed out of the wireman apprenticeship program.

In 2011, Doug became a Business Representative in the Fairbanks office advocating for local members, negotiating and enforcing strong contracts throughout the interior. During his time working for us, Doug proved to be a highly effective negotiator and a dedicated professional. Doug consistently demonstrates an ability to protect wages and benefits, expanding work opportunities across Alaska, strengthening membership and apprenticeship training programs, ensuring financial responsibility within the local, and preparing the local for future growth through high school training programs.

Doug Tansy is steadfast in his belief and love for others, which grounds him in integrity for the work force he represents. Reelecting Doug Tansy as business manager for Local 1547 is a must. He upholds the values of our union. He has proven himself over his years of dedication and service representing others. He will continue to do so with your support. There are no doubt other candidates running for the office of business manager, consider this, why would you replace proven ability and prosperity Doug brings to the table with unproven talent?

Fraternally yours,

James Gengler

The 1547 Executive Board gets a thorough look each month at what goes on inside our Local Union on a day to day basis. Doug Tansy’s resume is impressive. But what is really impressive is to see how quickly Doug has taken over the reins of our Union in such a skillful way in such a short period of time. He was built to lead. Smart and compassionate with a real understanding of the needs of ALL of our members and how to get things done. I can think of no-one more qualified to move our Local into the future. A vote for Doug is a vote for sound, competent, cutting-edge leadership.
